My parents have spent their lives building a loving home, and now, in their retirement years, they are facing an unimaginable challenge. Hurricane Melissa tore through our community and left their house severely damaged, with the roof completely destroyed. After the roof was damaged, water poured into the house and ruined all of their furniture, leaving them with nothing but the clothes they could carry. The home that once provided comfort and security is now uninhabitable, and my parents have been forced to leave everything behind. My father is in the early stages of dementia, which makes this upheaval even more distressing for both of them.

Right now, my parents are staying with siblings, but it’s not the same as being in their own home. They are unable to function as they would in their familiar space, and the uncertainty is taking a toll on their well-being. The funds raised will go directly toward repairing the roof, replacing damaged furniture, and restoring their home, so they can return to the place that means so much to them. Having a safe and stable environment is especially important for my father’s health and for my parents’ ability to live independently.
