Hello everyone, my name is Becky Cardona. I am the daughter of Reina Marin Cardona.
Around 2 am in Pedro Cortez, Honduras on 9/17 , a fire broke out in my uncle’s pulpería (neighborhood shop) and spread quickly. It reached my mother’s home her childhood home, my grandparents’ home and the place she had hoped to retire. Thankfully, no one was inside either place at the time but the damage is devastating.
My mother, uncle and aunt have lost everything. The shop was my uncle’s main source of income and is now gone. My mother has lost both her home and the home she grew up in which she loved dearly, as well as all of her belongings and memories. Since their area in Honduras is considered a flood-danger zone, there is no insurance to cover losses like this.
Today happens to be my birthday. Normally I’d be celebrating but all I can think about is how to help my mother and family rebuild. Now thinking on how to restore a place full of history, love, and sacrifice.
We are asking for any help. Any donation, no matter how small, will be used for:
• Securing temporary shelter
• Replacing essential belongings (furniture, clothes, kitchen items)
• Rebuilding or repairing the house and shop
• Restoring a home filled with memories for my mother and family business
If you can’t donate right now, that’s completely understandable since times are tough for everyone right now but if you can share this story helps more than you know. Even spreading the message can make a difference.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, your time, and your support.
With love and gratitude & Que dios de bendiga
