Help rebuild my family's home in Louisville
Donation protected
Hello everyone, this is a fundraiser to help my family (mother, father, and sister) start to rebuild their lives after the Marshall Wildfire burned our family house in Louisville to the ground. My family -- including two dogs, and the kitty -- all made it out safely! We appreciate everyone who has reached out and helped us in this difficult time. A lot of you have been asking if there is a way to donate to the cause, so I have created this GoFundMe!

My girlfriend and I were driving to Colorado from New Mexico on Thursday the 30th of December to spend New Year's with my family, when my father informed me that there was a large grass fire in the neighboring town of Superior. The fire then jumped to a neighborhood and a few stores in the surrounding area; I received a text from dad telling me that they had been ordered to evacuate even though the fire was still miles away.
My dad later told me he thought it was very unlikely that the wildfire would reach our house. The fire jumped US-36 into Louisville and started claiming stores and neighborhoods. Thursday night we heard through online sources that our house was on the edge of the burn zone, and we did not know whether it was affected or not as we were unable to get into town.
Friday morning, we were able to sneak into Louisville while it was still under lockdown and reach our house at 104 Vista Lane; unfortunately, it burned all the way to the ground. There was almost nothing left to recover. As we rummaged through the debris, we found a few pieces of ceramic pieces that had survived the fire, but everything else was lost.
While evacuating, my father saved some important documents, a few sets of clothing, and a laptop. My mother also saved a few outfits, and some stuff for the pets. My sister was out in town running errands when the evacuation order first came through, and she only had time enough to stop by and get one set of clothing when leaving the house. All the material possessions that were in the house were lost.
I am putting this fundraiser together to help them get back on their feet. After talking to some friends that have been in comparable situations, I understand that the insurance process can take a while, which could leave my family in a precarious situation. I thought this amount would be enough to help them get some necessities (and later help in the rebuilding process) while they wait on a decision from the insurance company regarding monetary compensations.
I am in town for a few more days and wanted to help them as best as I could while I was still here. If anyone knows any other ways to help, please feel free to reach out to me. I'm sorry that I am slow at responding to messages on my phone and social media, but I will get back to you all soon.
I'll do my best to post updates on what's going on with my family and the rebuilding process!
Thank you all, much love, and God Bless
