“From Healing Others to Losing Everything: A Palestinian Doctor’s Plea for Hope”

My name is Maram Abdeen, a 30-year-old Palestinian from Gaza. I am a physiotherapist, and a well-known poet. I was honored as the Poet of Al-Azhar University and traveled to many countries to participate in major literary events.

I once had a beautiful home in Rafah and a fully equipped physiotherapy clinic, where I treated war victims, amputees, and people with disabilities. My clinic was filled with advanced medical devices, many of which I bought on credit. But everything was completely destroyed by Israeli airstrikes—my home, my clinic, my equipment, and my children’s belongings. Some of my medical devices were worth over $10,000 each, and I had around 15 devices in total. Now, I have nothing left.

I fled with my two young children (3.5 and 2.5 years old), leaving behind everything as bombs rained down on us. My husband is unemployed, and we are now living in a tent with relatives who will soon need it back. Soon, we will have nowhere to go.

I have always volunteered in Gaza’s hospitals, and now I continue working with the Palestinian Red Crescent to help my people. But today, I need your support—to rebuild my clinic, to care for war victims, and to provide a home for my children.

Help me bring hope back from the rubble.

أنا مرام عابدين، فلسطينية من غزة، عمري 30 عامًا، دكتورة علاج طبيعي، وشاعرة مشهورة في غزة. حصلت على لقب شاعرة جامعة الأزهر وسافرت إلى العديد من البلدان للمشاركة في أكبر الفعاليات الأدبية.

كان لي منزل جميل في رفح وعيادة طبية أعالج فيها مصابي الحرب وذوي الإعاقة والبتر. كانت العيادة مجهزة بأحدث الأجهزة، اشتريت نصفها بالدين، لكنها دُمّرت بالكامل مع منزلي تحت قصف الاحتلال. لم يبقَ لي أي جهاز طبي، رغم أن بعضها كان يتجاوز سعره 10 آلاف دولار، وفقدت كل أثاثي وملابس أطفالي.

نزحتُ هاربة من الموت مع طفليَّ (٣ سنوات ونصف، و٢ سنوات ونصف)، ولم نأخذ معنا شيئًا سوى أرواحنا. زوجي عاطل عن العمل، والآن نقيم في خيمة أقاربنا، لكنهم يريدون استعادتها، وسنصبح بلا مأوى.

كنت أعمل متطوعة في مستشفيات غزة، والآن أواصل التطوع في الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني، لأنني أؤمن بأن الخير قادم. لكني اليوم بحاجة إلى دعمكم لأعيد فتح عيادتي وأساعد مصابي الحرب، ولأوفر لأطفالي مأوى وحياة كريمة.
