Help Rebuild Mohammed's Gallery After the War
Donation protected
My name is Nik. I live in Chicago, Illinois. I have been in contact with Neveen El Hassanat, a young mother of three children (ages 5, 3, and 2), who has lived through several horrific experiences during the bombardment of the Gaza strip. She was separated from her husband, Mohammed, about a month ago, and doesn't know whether he is alive or dead. Mohammed is an artist and interior designer whose gallery, which he built himself, was destroyed. Neveen asked me to make this GoFundMe to raise money to rebuild his shop after the war, in hopes that he returns, as a surprise for him. If he does not return, the money will be used to support her and her children. I will be collecting the funds on her behalf and sending them to her.
Here is the message Mohammed originally wrote before he went missing, followed by the message Neveen wrote for this fundraiser (translated from Arabic and edited for clarity):
"My name is Mohammed Abu Shabab. I am 36 years old. I discovered my artistic sense as a child. I used to translate all my feelings through paintings. I am married and have three children. The responsibilities became great. I turned to painting walls in houses and creating decorations. I used to earn a lot and I was able to fulfill my responsibilities for my small family, but overnight we became homeless. There are no houses to paint - there is nothing. I lost my own beautiful house and my beautiful gallery full of the paintings in which I used to express all my feelings. I feel very sad and ashamed when I look in the eyes of my little children. We cannot find food. I try to get scraps here and there. The water is contaminated and they have all contracted hepatitis, but we cannot get treatment for them."
Message from Neveen:
"One day when I learned that the soldiers had retreated from our house and the gallery, I went to check what was left of them. I couldn't find our house. The gallery was so fragmented that I couldn't recognize it easily. I only knew it from the scattered boxes of colors and some quills dusted with explosive materials. I went to a dark place at this point. There is no news of my husband. I don't know anything about where he is or whether he is alive. I wanted to create this fundraiser to surprise my husband, if he returns, to rebuild his gallery. I feel that he is alive. We hope so. I hope that everyone who reads the story will help me and pray that my husband will return to me safely."

This will bring Neveen great comfort and hope. Thank you for donating.
