***UPDATE***
We wanted to give you all an update on my grandmother’s situation. Unfortunately, we’ve just learned that due to policy restriction's, her homeowners insurance will not cover the damages caused by the wildfire. This has left us with the daunting task of figuring out how to rebuild the life she worked so hard to achieve.
We’ve increased our fundraising goal in light of this new challenge. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and mean so much to our family during this difficult time. Your kindness and support have already helped us more than words can express, and we are so deeply grateful for everything you’ve done.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for continuing to stand by us as we navigate the road ahead.
*************
On January 8th 2025, our beloved family home was tragically destroyed by the Eaton Canyon Fire. This home was not just a house—it was the heart and soul of our family. Our matriarch, Mercie Booker, migrated from Louisiana to Altadena in 1965, where she raised six children and lovingly fostered eight more. For decades, her home has been a place of refuge, love, and connection, hosting family gatherings, religious celebrations, and countless holidays.
At 92 years old, Mercie has poured her heart into this home, and it holds more than just physical belongings. It carries memories of laughter, life lessons, and the unbreakable bond of family. From her kitchen to her living room, every corner was filled with her love and care.
Now, everything she has owned—the memories, the treasures, the keepsakes—is gone. We are humbly asking for your support to help address the many aspects of recovery and to support our family through this crisis. Your donations will help us restore the place that has been the cornerstone of our family for nearly seven decades. No amount is too small, and every bit of support is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for being part of our journey to rebuild and honor the legacy of a woman who has given so much to all of us. Your kindness will help us to cover costs that may not be fully covered by other sources of aid.
With gratitude,
The family of Mercie Booker
