Help rebuild magic after fire took The Sky Rabbit's House.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the unfortunate news of an accident that happened about a week or so ago while transporting The Sky Rabbit’s House. As we were driving on the highway, the interior of the wooden house caught fire. We drove for a while without knowing we were on fire. Thankfully our spotter driving behind us saw a tiny wood ember fly out the back. We quickly pulled over, jumped out of the front seat and watched helplessly as she was engulfed in flames. Never have I felt so exceptionally powerless. My friend who was with me said for all the problems we know how to solve, this was something we just couldn’t touch. So we watched as she burned, trying to wrap our heads around what happened, but also realizing how lucky we were to have walked away completely unharmed.

My heart is broken, and I have been moving somewhat like a ghost, but also understanding that grief is not linear and we just move on the way we need to move on. This fire did not only destroy one of my more important pieces to date, but it also took away a huge amount of my spirit. On the eve of my 50th birthday, I have learned that the only way I can fully move through all of this is to continue to make. Make something, build something, create something, or put something out into the world.

I am humbly asking for help in recouping what is not only a huge emotional loss, but also a financial loss. This passion project was built by several generous donations, but also largely self-funded. The interior of the car was filled with expensive gear, camping equipment, our beloved Pickle Joint, generators, speakers, tools, etc. All of the parts that make this so special. I am looking at a double-loss right now and could really use your help.

My next evolution of the Sky Rabbit was to include several smaller moving sculptures alongside her, and create a world that would envelop many different senses. Since she is gone, I still intend to do this, but with a different idea based on Hindu folklore about the moon. I would like to start this summer with a small moving sculpture, to be completed by August, and continue building another small moving sculpture plus a larger piece throughout the year (and into 2026). I see this project having 3 cars total: 1 large opus and 2 smaller conversations.

I am hoping this fundraiser will help me to recoup the initial seed money for The Sky Rabbit’s House, recoup our camp (The beloved Pickle Joint), gear, tools, and begin works on the next art piece.

Thank you so much to everyone who spent magical time in The Sky Rabbit’s House. The piece was made for people to fall in love, and boy did we ever. It was gone way too soon. I cherish the memories of the build, the fun, the cruising around, the learning, the tears, the laughter, all of it. I am so grateful we did not get hurt and are able to continue making and believing in things much bigger than ourselves.
