Hello, my name is Chanise Dunkley-Evans.
My father & grandmother have been on the ground in Jamaica for the past month helping people whose lives were decimated by the worst hurricane in the island’s history; Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on 28th October 2025.
When Hurricane Melissa tore through parts of Jamaica, several families in our community lost everything. Homes that once provided safety, memories and comfort were destroyed in a matter of hours. Now, they are left with nothing but the clothes they were wearing and the hope that help will arrive.
After the hurricane the cameras left, the headlines moved on but many families are still living amongst the rubble and the trauma of this life changing ordeal.
Despite the devastation these families are resilient and are determined to rebuild, but they cannot do it alone.
While we have been able to provide some assistance we feel compelled to do more.
We are therefore reaching out to the wider community in order to provide more help to mothers, fathers, grandparents, and children who suddenly find themselves without shelter, without basic necessities and without the resources to begin rebuilding their lives.
Please follow the link to our video https://youtu.be/tM4BqryKDEA documenting the current situation faced by some of our friends and neighbours. While we can’t change the world, we hope to help these individuals begin to rebuild their modest homes in order to regain some normality.
By way of quantifying what your money will provide, here is an example of the approximate cost of building materials:
1 of 2” x 4” length of 18m wood = £15
Sheet of zinc = £20
Sheet of plywood = £20
Cubic Yard of sand = £25
Cubic Yard of stone = £25
Please consider donating as every amount helps, no matter the size. All funds raised will go directly toward purchasing essential building materials for those who have been most impacted.
Your donations will be going to one of our family members in Jamaica who will work with Richard, the carpenter (featured in the video) to facilitate the purchase and distribution of materials to the residents of Cedar Walk.
Progress updates will be shared so you can see the tangible difference your support makes.
If you are unable to donate, no problem. We know it’s tough at the moment. You can still make a difference by sharing this link to others who may be able to help.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and willingness to stand with these families and help them to take their first steps in rebuilding their lives.
Thank you for reading.
