Help Rebuild Lives in Jamaica After Hurricane Melisa Supporting Families with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Others in Urgent Need My name is Steve Dunkley, a proud Jamaican born and raised in Bogue, St. Elizabeth the land that raised me and shaped my heart for helping others. Today, I live in New York, but my family my mother, brother, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends are still in Jamaica. And right now, they are hurting deeply. A few weeks ago, Hurricane Melisa, a Category 5 storm, struck Jamaica with unimaginable force. Entire communities across Westmoreland, Montego Bay, Black River, Braes River, George’s Valley, and Santa Cruz were devastated. Roofs ripped away, homes flooded, furniture destroyed, and hospitals left without shelter. Many are still without electricity, clean water, or communication. But what breaks my heart most are the families with children who have autism and Down syndrome the ones so often forgotten in times like this. Their struggles were already quiet before the storm. Now, in the aftermath, their voices have almost disappeared. I’ve received calls and messages from parents crying for help not just for food or shelter, but for understanding. In Jamaica, disabilities like autism and Down syndrome are not widely recognized or supported, and now these families are suffering silently, isolated and unseen. For over 20 years, I’ve worked with people on the autism and Down syndrome spectrum. As a psychology major, I’ve seen firsthand how small acts of compassion can restore hope to families who feel invisible. That’s why I’m asking you today from the depth of my heart to help me go back home and rebuild hope.

How Your Donation Will Help Every contribution, no matter how small, will go directly to providing:

1. Roofing materials (zinc, nails, plywood) for families who lost their homes.

2. Basic necessities like clothes, sheets, and furniture.

3. Special care supplies for children with disabilities food, hygiene items, sensory materials, and therapy support.

4.⛪ Community rebuilding efforts, starting with local churches and shelters where many now sleep.
I will personally ensure transparency by sharing photos, receipts, and updates as we deliver supplies to the families in need.

This isn’t a one-time gesture it’s a mission to restore dignity, stability, and love to the forgotten. How You Can Help Donate what you can even 50 cents, $1, $10 every act of kindness adds up. Share this campaign your voice might reach someone who can give more. Keep Jamaica in your prayers and hearts. Together, we can remind these families that they are not forgotten that compassion travels across oceans and rebuilds what hurricanes destroy.
From my heart to yours, Steve Dunkley Proud Son of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica  Now living in New York, still serving my homeland.Thanks.
