Help Rebuild Lives in Philippines After Devastating Typhoons

Dear friends,

My name is Nicolasa. I am originally from the Philippines but have been living in Germany for the last 44 years. Many of my relatives still live in the Philippines, including my niece—a single mom—who lives with her 5-year-old son and 19-year-old brother in Legazpi, Albay Province, near the foot of the Mayon Volcano.

What happened

Over the past few years, this region has been struck by multiple natural disasters, devastating homes and livelihoods. Sadly, my niece’s house was among those destroyed. Despite rebuilding efforts with the generous help of some friends, tragedy struck again. In October, the tropical storm Trami (Kristin) severely damaged her home, and before recovery was complete, typhoon Man-yi (Pepito) destroyed it once more.

Currently, my niece, her son, and her brother are living in a tiny one-bedroom apartment, struggling to meet daily expenses and lacking the means to rebuild their home.

Providing healthy meals for malnourished children

But my niece’s challenges don’t end there. She works at a local school where many children come from impoverished families. These children are often malnourished and living in extremely poor conditions. My niece has been selflessly organizing and preparing meals for these kids, but due to limited resources, she cannot sustain this initiative on her own.

To make matters worse, forecasts predict more typhoons in the coming weeks, further threatening their safety and well-being. Heavy rainfalls and flooding are already preventing children from attending school.

Why I am reaching out to ask for your support

• 50% of your donations will go towards purchasing groceries to provide nourishing meals for the children at the school.

• The other 50% will help my niece rebuild her home and support her family.
