Help Rebuild Lives After Toxic Mold Crisis

My name is Lore Powell and I'm reaching out for help after both me and my partner, Rey, found that we have been suffering from extreme mycotoxin poison unknowingly for 2 years while living in and working from our home in Cincinnati, Ohio. It wasn't until our basement flooded in January 2024 that we became aware of the several large cracks in the homes foundation, allowing multiple types of toxic mold to flourish within our walls, between our floors, and in our air conditioning system predating our move in on June 3rd, 2022.

Living in the toxins was nothing short of nightmarish. We would constantly be exhausted despite getting more than enough rest. Our appetites all but vanished, leaving us struggling to eat and nourish ourselves properly. Both of us developed consistent tinnitus and heavy brain fog, making everyday tasks impossible to finish. We fell too ill to take care of our three cats, forcing us to rehome two of them so neither party would continue to suffer. Near the second year we began experiencing more noticeable neurological symptoms such as spasms, jolts, trouble swallowing, confusion with reading/writing, and memory issues.

Work became impossible to keep up with as our memory and health worsened. I was sending clients the wrong files, missing deadlines, thinking I had sent a file when I hadn't. My partner was forced to shoulder the majority of our expenses while I attempted to recover, leaving them exhausted and overworked to an extreme, quickly deteriorating their mental health until they too were unable to keep up with work. My father had to step in and cover our rent, medical expenses, and food until we could get back on our feet, but we continued to decline. Concerned I was developing some sort of memory loss, I visited my doctor. On July 1st, 2024 I was officially diagnosed with transient global amnesia due to the constant mycotoxin exposure as an asthmatic.

We have since been evicted from this home in July 2024, having only seven days to vacate the property as we were both still too sick to work and my father could no longer help with month to month expenses as he went into further debt to pay for environmental testing of the home. This allowed a senior mold analyst to come collect samples from the home to send to a professional toxicologist. This toxicologist came back to say that our home was one of the worst cases he has seen in over ten years, saying it was a good thing we were no longer in the house, and confirmed we had both been poisoned simply by living there.

We lost the majority of our belongings and are currently staying with family in NJ as we try and pick ourselves back up from this nightmare. These funds will help us close the overdue utilities from the home we no longer live in, reconnect our phone lines, cover medical expenses/medication as neither of us have insurance, and help us cover our continuing monthly bills until we can work again.
