My mother is a single mother of three daughters who has spent the last 16 years building her small business, Lily’s Pallets, from the ground up. Through extreme heat, cold weather, the pandemic, and even holidays, she has never stopped working. She shows up every day because she truly loves what she does and believes in serving others through her work. Over the years, she has always been a helping hand to those in need within the Houston community. She is the kind of person who gives even when she has little, who keeps going even when life is hard. To us—and to many others—she represents hope, faith, and perseverance. She is truly the light at the end of the tunnel.

On December 16, tragedy struck when her entire business burned down. Everything was lost—the structure, tools, materials, and years of hard work and sacrifice. In a single moment, the business she poured her heart and soul into was taken from her. My mother’s work as a carpenter is deeply inspired by her faith in Jesus, and she has always believed her hands were meant to build, restore, and help others. Now, she needs help herself.
