Help Rebuild Life After Traumatic Brain Injury
Donation protected
Last August I was in a bad accident off of my horse and was helicoptered to Cooper Hospital. Unfortunately my injuries were pretty severe in my brain and body so Cooper was unsure if I’d survive. Thank God I did, but I ended up in 3 different hospitals from August to December 19th. I don’t have memory until the beginning of October, but it took a long time to remember much of anything. I was diagnosed with a brain injury but was unfortunately not treated for it in the last hospital. I just went to physical therapy in the morning and then walked for hours. When I finally did leave the hospital in December all I did was constantly cry. I needed treatment for the brain injury, but unfortunately I had none.
Friends connected me to a Brain injury treatment company in NJ and I finally got a counselor. I have since had ct scans and revisited the neurologist I saw the first time I was helicoptered to Cooper after my accident. I was told the the good news was that my body had recovered some but my brain injuries on the left side of my forehead, side and back of my head caused a brain injury. I used to be a barber and had my own shop in Deptford, NJ called Atomic Aces Studio. My dogs and I would go there daily, they would take naps and I cut peoples hair with happiness. I thought riding a horse would be a good part of my life. I had no idea there was a possibility of being injured as bad as I was and losing my barbershop and house.
Currently my brain is completely different from the results of the brain injury. I am forgetful of everything constantly, it’s like I forget my old life and am starting a new one. I currently am going to start brain injury employment training and am starting to live life again. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated
