Recently, my partner - Carlos Jose Rangel Rincones was the victim of a deeply traumatic incident inolving an Englewood, CO police officer that is now under police investigation. The case involves potential charges of second-degree (a felony) and third-degree assault, as well as first-degree official misconduct against the police officer involved. News outlets including CBS news 9news have shared more about the ongoing investigation.
My partner came to the United States legally after seeking refuge here, hoping to rebuild a life in safety and peace. His journey to reach this country was nothing short of harrowing. He crossed the Darien Gap, one of the most dangerous stretches of jungle in the world, facing hunger, exhaustion, and unimaginable adversity just to survive and reach freedom.
After everything he endured, he believed he had finally found safety in the United States. But that sense of safety was shattered when he was violently assaulted—allegedly by someone meant to protect and serve. No one should ever experience such brutality, least of all from a police officer sworn to uphold justice and safeguard the community.
He worked hard every day to support himself and our family, and the car involved in the incident is fully insured and registered in his name.
Since the assault, he has been unable to return to work. The physical and emotional toll has been overwhelming—he is still recovering from his injuries and receiving ongoing care from psychologists to cope with the trauma. Every day is a struggle to cover even the most basic necessities like rent, food, and medical expenses.
No one should have to experience such violence, especially someone who came to this country seeking safety. We are asking for your compassion and support during this unimaginably difficult time. Any donation—no matter how small—will go directly toward helping him recover, heal, and begin to rebuild his life.
