Big Penny 2.0

Lansing's beloved Too Tall Truck Munching Bridge also known as Big Penny was destroyed earlier this year. We are raising funds to rebuild and resurrect Lansing's beautiful bridge. Like a phoenix she will rise from the ashes! Bigger, stronger, googlier, and hopefully hungrier. The original Penny was made from foam, and plastic. We are designing a more resilient Penny this time around. Made of PVC, and stainless steel. With eyes that move, and also reflect light at night!

STUPID - Lansing has partnered with some of Lansing's most skilled and creative Local Artists & Makers. We are working to make a Big Penny that will be resilient, maintainable, and one that will hopefully last for generations.

The original Big Penny was done on a shoestring budget. Big Penny 2.0 is going to be a bit more of a project to put together, and the supplies to make it happen are going to be much more expensive this time around. We need at least 4 sheets of PVC for the teeth and eyes. Those alone are $100 a piece. The stainless steel that we are using for the frame, and the stainless steel hardware are costly as well. Big Penny's toothy grin is more than 20ft wide, and the frame will need to be at least that large to support it. That's a giant piece of steel, and it's not gonna come cheap.

We also plan on introducing movement, and reflectivity to the eyes! We think this will make Big Penny 2.0 even cooler! It will also serve as yet another warning mechanism for any wayward Too Tall Trucks! The idea is to 100% keep the original aesthetic of Big Penny but refine it a little, make it more permanent, and make it just a little more awesome!

We have set a goal of $2,000.00 to cover the supplies. Everyone involved in this project is donating their time, equipment, and as always, remaining anonymous. This is not about anyone making money, this is about making something special for Lansing. STUPID - Lansing's goal has always been to make Lansing smile, and maybe even occasionally laugh. We will never stray from that mission.

If we hit the fundraising goal that would be absolutely amazing!

If we come up short we're still going to make it happen.

If we exceed our goal we might buy a six pack, and a couple pizzas while we're working on Penny.

If there is anything left over we will make sure to put it directly torwards our mission of making Lansing smile, and maybe help cover the taxes associated with the fundraiser!
