My name is Katherine Chin. I reside in London, Ontario (Canada). I started this campaign to raise funds for my best friend Jean Lawrence. Jean became a cherished friend when I moved to Jamaica for a brief period some 30 years ago and we have remained close ever since. Jean and her husband George frequently welcomed family and friends with love and kindness into their home every winter, especially those of us back in Canada!

Jean poured her heart and soul into managing Silent Waters Villa for 25 years, taking great care and pride to ensure every guest had a wonderful stay while in Jamaica, and she retired in 2024.

When hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm, it left behind devastation - and for Jean and George, it turned the home they built on Porto Bello Drive over 35 years into a place of heartbreak. On October 28, 2025, during the storm, their house took a direct hit. The roof shingles were ripped away, allowing torrential rain to pour inside. The violent winds blew out all the windows, damaging furniture, curtains, bedding and treasured personal belongings. They are now faced with the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding with very limited means.

With the help from this fundraiser I hope we can help Jean and George:

Replace the roof shingles to make their home safe and weatherproof again (estimated cost $7,000 CAD)

Repair and replace essential household items lost to water damage ($3,000 CAD)

Restore a sense of security and comfort after this traumatic event (Priceless)
