Help Rebuild a Hicksville Landmark: House of Donuts & the Kefalas Family
In the early hours of October 9th, tragedy struck the heart of Hicksville. A devastating fire tore through East Marie Street—destroying multiple small businesses that have been pillars of our community for decades.
Among them was a place that means the world to so many of us: House of Donuts, owned by Nick and Maria Kefalas.
For over 50 years, the Kefalas Family has been serving coffee, doughnuts, and warmth to generations of Long Islanders. It’s where commuters grab their morning cup before the LIRR, where neighbors stop in to catch up, and where my family and I have started our mornings for as long as I can remember.
To walk through their doors was to be greeted not just by the smell of fresh pastries, but by the kindness and love of a family that treats every customer like one of their own.
Now, that home away from home is gone. In a matter of hours, decades of memories, hard work, and community spirit were reduced to ashes. Thankfully, everyone made it out safely — but the loss is immeasurable.
The Kefalas Family has given so much to Hicksville. They’ve been there for us, every single morning, rain or shine. Now it’s time for us to be there for them.
This GoFundMe will go directly toward helping Nick and Maria rebuild their business, recover from the damages, and reopen the doors of this beloved local treasure.
Every dollar—no matter how small—helps bring hope, stability, and comfort back to a family who has given our community so much.
Let’s come together as neighbors, friends, and family to show that Hicksville stands by its own.
Let’s help the Kefalas Family rebuild the House of Donuts—brick by brick, cup by cup, heart by heart.
❤️ Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and love for our community.
