Help Rebuild Homes for Single Mothers in Uganda
Donation protected
How Gloria is still smiling in this photo, I just don't know. Perhaps it's her resilience and courage; her strong will to survive against all odds....
Gloria is a single mother with two children. Whilest working in the quarry breaking stone, her grass roof hut burnt down when a child accidently knocked over beans cooking on the fire. Gloria has lost not just her shelter, but all her possessions.
Like Gloria, her neighbour's hut burned as the fire spread. Irene, a widow with five children also lost everything.
I can't even imagine their suffering.
Both women work tirelessly in the quarry breaking stone for 40 cents per day. Irene's situation is dire as her husband was shot dead last year and she is HIV positive.
Gloria separated from her husband when he brought home another wife. She was forced to flee the family home and is now struggling to survive alone with her two young children.
The Road to Gulu Project would like to assist with emergency assistance for these two incredible women that live just near me in Ta-dum village.
With only $3,400, we can restore their grass huts (fix mud brick walls, new grass roofs, doors and concrete floor), give emergency food and clothing, and buy them blankets and a matress. And as wet season is upon us, we need to get these houses fixed as soon as possible!
Want to give even more?
If funding allows, we would like to build them a communal kitchen so that they don't have to cook in their huts when it's raining and risk losing everything they own.
A small communal kitchen with a tin roof would cost another $2,700.
Want to give even more?
Anything raised over the initial target will go towards our Women's Empowerment Program to help single mother's gain a skill to earn a living and support their children. Gloria could even become a hair dresser like she dreams of!
We have over 500 single mother's in our community. Most are victims of domestic violence, alcoholism, adultery or property grabbing. By assisting the mother's, their children will have a better future.
We are so grateful that you took the time to read this. We appreciate all contributions and prayers. Together, we can give struggling single mother's opportunities and a helping hand!
Lots of Love,
Angela, Gillian, Meleane, Jaimee-Ann, Elizabeth and all the single mother's doing it tough in Uganda! xoxoxo
