My name is Stephen Reilly, and I created this fundraiser for my wife, Heidy Martinez, whose family was directly affected by the recent earthquake in Colombia. While I am helping organize this campaign, the message below comes from Heidy herself and reflects her family's experience, gratitude, and hope for the future:

Our family is safe. That's the first thing I want to say, and the thing I'm most thankful for.

When the recent earthquake hit Colombia this past Monday, August 10th, my mother Zoraida, my sisters Jenny and Juanita, and my two nieces Naomi and Salome were home. They walked away unharmed. But their apartment buildings suffered serious structural damage, and they were forced to leave their homes indefinitely.

First and foremost, we are grateful that our family is safe. While many people have suffered unimaginable losses, including the loss of loved ones and entire homes, we know how fortunate we are to still have each other. Our hearts are with everyone affected by this disaster and with those who continue to face even greater challenges, including friends.

Although my family is safe, they are now displaced and facing a long road to recovery. The damage to both apartments is extensive, and rebuilding is expected to take several months. In the meantime, they must secure temporary housing while navigating the challenges of starting over. The financial burden is already growing, with costs ranging from temporary accommodation and structural repairs to replacing essential household items that were damaged or destroyed. The process of rebuilding their homes, facing post-traumatic stress, and restoring a sense of stability will take significant time and resources.

The funds raised through this campaign will help cover temporary accommodation and essential rebuilding costs for my family. Any contribution will help provide stability and peace of mind while they navigate this difficult transition.

Our family has always relied on one another, and we are doing everything we can to move forward together. If you are able to support us, we would be deeply grateful. If a donation is not possible, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.

Aunque estoy ayudando a organizar esta campaña, el mensaje que sigue proviene de Heidy y refleja la experiencia de su familia, así como su gratitud y esperanza para el futuro:

Nuestra familia está a salvo. Es lo primero que quiero decir y, sin duda, por lo que me siento más agradecida.

Cuando el reciente terremoto golpeó Colombia este lunes 10 de agosto, mi madre, Zoraida, mis hermanas, Jenny y Juanita, y mis dos sobrinas, Naomi y Salomé, estaban en sus hogares. Afortunadamente, salieron ilesas. Sin embargo, los edificios donde vivían sufrieron graves daños estructurales, y tuvieron que abandonar sus apartamentos por tiempo indefinido.

Antes que nada, estamos profundamente agradecidas de que nuestra familia esté a salvo. Mientras muchas personas han sufrido pérdidas inimaginables, incluyendo la pérdida de seres queridos y de sus hogares, somos conscientes de la fortuna que tenemos al seguir juntos. Nuestros pensamientos y nuestro corazón están con todas las personas afectadas por esta tragedia y con quienes continúan enfrentando desafíos aún mayores, incluidos amigos cercanos.

Aunque mi familia está a salvo, ahora se encuentra desplazada y afrontando un largo camino hacia la recuperación. Los daños en ambos apartamentos son considerables, y se espera que la reconstrucción tome varios meses. Mientras tanto, necesitan encontrar una vivienda temporal segura al mismo tiempo que enfrentan los retos de empezar de nuevo. La carga económica crece, con gastos que incluyen alojamiento temporal, reparaciones estructurales y la reposición de artículos esenciales del hogar que resultaron dañados o destruidos. El proceso de reconstruir sus hogares, afrontar el impacto emocional y el estrés postraumático, y recuperar una sensación de estabilidad requerirá tiempo y recursos significativos.

Los fondos recaudados a través de esta campaña ayudarán a cubrir los costos de alojamiento temporal y los gastos esenciales de reconstrucción para mi familia. Cualquier contribución ayudará a brindarles estabilidad y tranquilidad mientras atraviesan esta difícil transición.

Nuestra familia siempre ha contado unos con otros, y estamos haciendo todo lo posible para salir adelante juntos. Si pueden apoyarnos, les estaremos profundamente agradecidos. Y si no les es posible hacer una donación, compartir esta campaña también significaría muchísimo para nosotros.
