Help Rebuild Hakimi Jewelry Destroyed by Looters

Donation protected
On May 31st., Hakimi Jewelry inside Durant Square was looted, vandalized, and destroyed. Mr. Hakimi is a hard working individual and an established small business owner in the Oakland community for over 20 years. Durant Square Management asked all storeowners in early March to close their business due to shelter in place for Covid-19. Mr. Hakimi only had a few hours to close his store before going home, and not knowing that he would not be returning to his store for approximately four months. Durant was closed to the public, and he wasn’t able to return to better secure his store during the closure or when the protests started. As a result, looters broken into Durant and destroyed multiple small businesses during the GeorgeFloyd police brutality protest. While in full support of the peaceful protest a separate group has taken advantage and has brought much destruction to our community.

This senseless act of violence left Mr. Hakimi with a destroyed store that took 20 years to build. If you know Mr. Hakimi you know he is a selfless man and has many loyal customers who trust him. His customers are the reason he continues to keep his business in the Oakland community. In addition to breaking all of his showcases and vandalizing, they stole all of his jewelry. Video attached, viewer discretion advised.

We would like your help in rebuilding Mr. Hakimi’s business as his insurance coverage alone does not support the damage done. We want to support him and show him that his community is here, standing strong together to support him in this difficult time. Without the additional funds, he may not be able to restore his store to what it was before the looters destruction. It would be a significant loss for the Oakland community to lose our local Jeweler who has sold us jewelry and repaired our jewelry for years.

The funds collected here will be used to pay for property damages and to help rebuild the store, so that Hakimi can once again serve the Oakland community.

We are collectively grieving this loss and our hearts are heavy for our community members who have been affected by the looters in this time that we are trying to make a difference for our country. While it is out of our nature to ask for help, we are humbled to all the support from everyone, including the numerous requests we received to start a gofundme for Hakimi. We are truly grateful for your support and generosity!

Please share this around and help us REBUILD Hakimi’s Jewelry store!

Thank you to everyone, be safe.
