On the morning of Wednesday 23rd July, Grant and his daughters’ lives changed forever.
In a heartbreaking accident, a fire tore through their Newport home. It’s believed to have started in the garage, possibly from a vacuum on charge, and spread rapidly. The garage, which Grant had converted into a music recording studio, was gone within minutes. While flames didn’t reach every corner of the house, the intense heat and smoke wave destroyed or melted nearly everything in its path. By the time help arrived, it was too late.
Grant is a single dad to two beautiful young girls, aged 7 and 10, who spend half their time in his care. They are both active in cheerleading, a sport Grant is deeply involved in as their biggest supporter, always on the sidelines at training and competitions, cheering them on. Now, when they are with their dad, they have no home to go to. On top of the shock of the fire, the girls are facing the reality that their safe space with their father has been taken from them. And Grant is facing the unbearable weight of starting again from scratch.
As if that wasn’t devastating enough, one of the girls’ beloved cats was also lost in the fire. The heartbreak is hard to put into words.
To make matters worse, Grant recently discovered that his home insurance had lapsed, leaving him with no coverage and no safety net. Personal struggles in recent times meant he fell behind, something that could happen to any of us, and now he faces the full cost of recovery alone.
The damage is significant. The house requires a complete internal gut, structural repairs, and full restoration. Engineers have confirmed this is not a quick fix. The rebuild is expected to take close to a year, and the cost will be enormous.
Grant is not someone who would ever ask for help, which is exactly why we’re asking for him.
He’s a kind, quiet, genuine person, completely overwhelmed by the scale of this loss. He’s grieving, in shock, and trying to stay strong for his daughters. What he needs now is to know he’s not alone. That his community is behind him. That there’s still hope.
We’re fundraising to help Grant with:
- Emergency accommodation and essentials
- Replacing basic furniture, clothes, toys, and household items
- Clean-up and demolition costs
- Full home restoration and materials
- Rebuilding a safe, stable space for his girls
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. It helps ease the weight on Grant’s shoulders and brings him one step closer to putting his life back together. If you’re not in a position to donate, even sharing this page means the world.
Let’s remind Grant what community really means. That when everything falls apart, people show up.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
