Rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa: Help my grandparents with Home Repair and Medical Care
Our family is facing a crisis following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, which severely damaged my grandmother's home. In the same household, my crippled uncle is battling cancer and managing the daily needs of a colostomy bag. We are asking for your help to repair the extensive roof damage caused by the hurricane and provide for my uncle’s ongoing medical expenses and care. Your support will bring peace and stability back to our family during this incredibly difficult time.
Our Story:
This week, Hurricane Melissa tore through our region, bringing catastrophic winds and rain. The storm hit my grandmother's home particularly hard, tearing off a significant portion of the roof and causing major water damage inside. The house is now exposed to the elements, and the repair costs are far beyond what our family can afford.
The stress of this disaster is compounded by an ongoing health crisis. My uncle, who lives with my grandmother, is currently undergoing cancer treatment. He is frail, and his condition requires specialized care, including the constant management of a colostomy bag. The storm has not only devastated his living environment but also compromised the sterile, safe conditions he needs for his health. This situation puts his well-being at even greater risk. Attached is a link of the current hospital conditions where my uncle was getting weekly care. Currently, patients are still being relocated and the hospital is closed until further notice.
Where Your Donations Will Be Utilized:
Our goal is to raise funds to cover the most urgent and necessary expenses. Every dollar you contribute will be used for two critical purposes:
Home Repairs $35,000+: To hire contractors and purchase materials to fully repair the hurricane damage, focusing on replacing the roof and restoring a safe and dry living space for my grandmother and uncle.
Medical Care and Assistance $1000+: To cover the costs of my uncle's medical needs, including cancer treatment, medical supplies for his colostomy bag, and in-home care to ensure he can live comfortably and safely as he continues his fight.
Why This Means So Much:
My grandmother's home is the heart of our family. She has dedicated her life to caring for us, and now it's our turn to rally around her. We are a close-knit family, but the financial and emotional burden of these two crises happening at once is overwhelming. We cannot do this alone.
Your support would not only help us rebuild a physical structure but also provide peace of mind and the necessary care for my uncle during his greatest time of need. Please consider donating and sharing our story. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a profound difference.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Sincerely,
The Suckoo Family
