Whether you’ve met DJ Luongo in passing while grabbing a slice from his food truck, worked with him for years because you trust him to show up and deliver every time, or shared countless hours with him in the hockey community, there’s one thing everyone agrees on:
DJ is a great guy.
And so is his family.
And so are the people who work beside him.
They are the kind of people who show up early, stay late, treat customers like friends, and quietly give back to the community without ever asking for recognition. True pillars of Harford County.
Today, we’re reaching out with heavy hearts.
A sudden and devastating accident resulted in the total loss of their food truck, The Slice Is Right. In an instant, nearly a decade of hard work was brought to a halt.
What many people don’t know is that this business didn’t start big. Nearly ten years ago, DJ took a leap of faith with nothing more than a hot dog cart and a dream, self-funded and built through grit, long hours, and sacrifice. Over time, that dream grew into a livelihood — not just for DJ and his family, but for the families of the employees who depend on this job to pay their bills and put food on the table.
That single moment didn’t just destroy a truck.
It paused a business.
It stopped paychecks.
It created uncertainty for hardworking people who did nothing to deserve it.
Yes, insurance will help — but insurance doesn’t replace time, and it doesn’t pay employees while a new truck is fabricated, permitted, and brought back on the road. The reality is that rebuilding a food truck takes months, and the financial strain during that gap is overwhelming.
This truck was more than a vehicle.
It was how they supported their families.
It was how they served customers and showed up at local events.
It was a familiar face in neighborhoods across the county — and let’s be honest, some of the best pizza you could find for miles.
This GoFundMe has been created by members of the community who believe that when good people are knocked down, we don’t let them stay there.
All donations will go directly toward:
• Supporting and paying employees during this downtime.
• Covering unexpected expenses from the accident.
• Materials and costs not covered by insurance.
• Purchasing and outfitting a new food truck so they can get back on the road.
DJ and his family are humble to a fault. Asking for help does not come naturally to them. After much encouragement, they agreed to let the community step in — and they are deeply grateful for the love and support already shown.
If The Slice Is Right has ever fed you, supported your business, or simply made your day a little better, this is our chance to return that kindness.
Every donation matters.
Every share matters.
And together, we can help this incredible family and their employees come back stronger — serving the food, smiles, and community spirit we all know and love.
Please give what you can, and help bring The Slice Is Right back where it belongs — on the road, and in our community.
