Help Rebuild Crawford, St. Elizabeth After Hurricane Melissa

My name is Tasanique Henry, and I’m from Crawford, a small fishing village in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.

Our community has been severely affected by Hurricane Melissa, and many families are struggling to pick up the pieces. Homes have been destroyed, fishing boats damaged, and some lives tragically lost. While I’ve seen relief efforts and fundraisers spring up for nearby areas like Black River, Westmoreland etc., Crawford often gets overlooked—bundled into “the outskirts” or mentioned only in passing. But we are a proud, close-knit community that stands on its own.

Crawford is more than just a dot on the map; it’s home to the beautiful Galleon Beach, to fishermen who provide for generations, to children who still find ways to smile after the storm, and to elders who have spent their lives caring for this land.

I’m starting this GoFundMe to help rebuild Crawford, St. Elizabeth — to provide emergency relief for those who have lost their homes, repair boats for our fishermen, and restore access to essential supplies.

️ How the funds will be used and distributed

I want to be completely transparent about how donations are being used. At the moment, I’m working closely with a small volunteer team on the ground in Crawford, along with local community leaders, to identify families and individuals most affected by Hurricane Melissa. Together, we’ll be organizing and distributing supplies directly to residents in need.

Your donations will go toward:

Emergency relief supplies such as non-perishable food, hygiene and medical products, diapers, baby formula, blankets, and clothing.

Assisting local fishermen whose boats and equipment were damaged, helping them return to work and support their families.

While GoFundMe finalizes my account verification, I’ve already begun using my personal funds to move this relief work forward. I’ve made several Amazon bulk purchases (food, hygiene, and baby essentials) to ensure help reaches families quickly. I’ll continue to share photos, receipts, and updates as shipments go out and care packages are delivered.
