Community Space Food Bank is still open — and we need you now.

On the morning of July 3, 2025, a fire that started just outside our building at 3615 Beverly Blvd reached our facility. No one was hurt, but the fire and the water used to fight it destroyed our $8,000 commercial freezer, more than 200 clothing items, and thousands of dollars in food, and damaged our floors, walls, electrical, and lighting. Firefighters had to break down our front doors to get in.

We never closed.

One year later, our 100% volunteer team keeps our doors open seven days a week. Today we serve about 200–250 neighbors a day with free hot meals and groceries — no ID, no paperwork. Families, seniors, working people, and unhoused neighbors all shop our Community Choice Pantry with dignity.

Why we need help now

We are insured, but a year later our claim is still unresolved, and the cost of carrying on without it has caught up with us. Three of our freezers have been down for two weeks, and rent keeps coming due.

$14,600 gets us through October:

• $8,000 — rent and electrical work at our two sites

• $1,000 — repairing three freezers

• $5,600 — rent due October 1

We've raised $2,005 so far. Our new goal is $17,000.

Where we're headed

We are working to buy our building at 3615 Beverly Blvd (listed at $1.39 million), so this space stays in the neighborhood for good. Owning our home means stable costs and a permanent place where neighbors can eat, learn, and build together — including LA's first community freeze-dry center, which turns rescued food into long-lasting nutrition.
