Help Rebuild Carleton Heights Curling Club After Severe Fire
Donation protected
In the early morning hours of April 24, a devastating fire broke out at Carleton Heights Curling Club, in Ottawa, Ontario, severely damaging the kitchen, bar, lounge, and parts of the basement. Thanks to the swift response of emergency services, no one was hurt, but the heart of our club has been shaken.
We are heartbroken, but not broken.
The fire abruptly ended our season and suspended our club championships. Smoke damage reached the ice shed, and flooding during firefighting efforts caused further destruction. Though the ice plant was spared and we are insured for many of the core damages, we now face major costs that insurance won’t fully cover - especially in replacing equipment, furnishings, and key operational items.
We’re determined to reopen in time for the 2025-26 season.
The Board and volunteers are working tirelessly to assess the damage, coordinate cleanup, and begin restoration. Our goal is to have the ice and locker rooms operational in the fall, even if repairs to the upstairs lounge and kitchen take longer. There’s a long road ahead, but progress is already underway.
This is where we need your help.
Your donation will go directly toward covering the uncovered restoration costs, replacing vital contents, and getting our beloved club back up and running. Every bit helps—whether it's $10, $100, or simply sharing this campaign with others.
The Carleton Heights Curling Club has been a part of the Ottawa community since 1956. From a two-sheet outdoor rink it was converted to two-sheets indoors in 1958. A further expansion in 1965 saw the club expand to four sheets. Currently with over 450 members it is an active and vibrant part of the community.
By donating and spreading the word, you're not only going to help people to curl again, you're also going to support us supporting others. Over the years we have helped to raise a lot of money for many causes, including, but not limited to:
- Supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in the Crystal Heart Bonspiel
- Supporting Prostate Cancer Support Ottawa in our Curl for Hope Bonspiel
- CHCC’s Annual Bonspiel for Breast Cancer
- Hosting trials for the Special Olympics
We’ve already felt the warmth of the curling community: clubs across Ottawa, past members, and countless supporters have reached out with kind words and offers to help. We’ll also be organizing fundraising events in the coming weeks, but right now, your donation is the most impactful way to support us.
Carleton Heights Curling Club is more than a building—it’s a community, a second home, and a place where friendships are made on and off the ice.
Let’s rebuild it together.
Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your belief in our future. We will rise again—stronger than ever.
