Support Cambridge Primary School After Hurricane Melissa

My name is Shakir, I live in London but the community of Cambridge, St James, Jamaica holds a very special place in my heart. It is the place where my mum grew up as a child, attending both Cambridge Infant School and Cambridge Primary School alongside her four sisters. It’s also the place where so many of my childhood summers were spent, moments that helped shape me during my most formative years.

It is a community defined by resilience, warmth, and an unshakeable spirit, qualities that are needed now more than ever.

Seeing Cambridge so heavily impacted by Hurricane Melissa has been incredibly heartbreaking. Homes have been damaged/destroyed, families displaced, and the local schools, places that shaped generations, including my own family are now struggling to function. For the children who rely on these schools for structure, safety, and a sense of normality, the road to recovery is long.

After organising a n initial donation drive to send essential supplies to Jamaica, I am continuing these efforts by launching this GoFundMe with a clear purpose: to help Cambridge Primary School rebuild and return to normal so the children can learn, feel safe, and begin healing.

What Your Donation Will Support
All funds raised will go directly toward:
-Repairing damaged classrooms and school facilities
-Replacing lost books, stationery, and learning resources
-Helping restore stability and routine for students in the aftermath of the hurricane

A Personal Commitment
I will be travelling to Jamaica on December 11th to personally support the distribution of aid I've already sent and ensure that help reaches the children and families who need it most. Cambridge is not just a location on a map for me, it's part of my family’s story, and its people are part of who I am.

How You Can Help?
Your support, no matter the amount will make a meaningful difference. Together, we can help to try rebuild the Cambridge Primary School and restore some normality and hope for the next generation of children growing up in Cambridge.

I will document the process and provide updates whilst on the ground. I have close links in the area and will be contacting the school directly to better understand their most urgent needs to help get children back into education as soon as possible.

This fundraiser is dedicated to the memory of beloved grandparents:
-Cynthia Brown, a proud daughter of Jamaica.
-Kathleen Mae Harriott, Rue-Ann’s Grandmother - a generous and loving woman brought joy to every room she entered.
-Oscar James, a familiar and well-loved figure in the Cambridge community.

They have all sadly passed away within the last 12 months, and in honour of them and the values they instilled, we are committed to giving back to the place they called home.

Thank you for your generosity, your kindness in advance. One Love
