On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a catastrophic Category 5 storm, causing widespread destruction in the Caribbean and leaving many vulnerable communities struggling to recover.
I may not have attended Broughton Primary myself, but my heart has always belonged to this community — it’s where my family grew up, and where generations of children have taken their very first steps toward a brighter future.
Sadly, Hurricane Melissa has brought unimaginable devastation to Broughton. The primary school — a place that has shaped so many lives — has been severely damaged. Roofs torn off, classrooms flooded, and supplies destroyed. The children who should be learning, laughing, and dreaming are now unable to return to school.
This breaks my heart. Broughton Primary has always been more than just a school — it’s the heartbeat of the community. It’s where children learn resilience, kindness, and hope. And now, it’s our turn to give that hope back to them.
I’m starting this fundraiser to help rebuild Broughton Primary so the children can return to a safe, stable, and nurturing environment.
What we’re raising the funds for:
- Repairs to classrooms: roof, windows, walls, flooring
- Replacing lost or damaged educational supplies (books, desks, chairs)
- Restoring safe water/sanitation facilities and washrooms
- Temporary learning spaces so classes can resume while long-term repairs happen
- Providing support for students who have experienced trauma or displacement due to the storm
Every donation — large or small — will go directly to restoring the school and helping our children resume their education safely.
How you can help:
- Please donate and share this campaign link with your friends, family, and networks.
- If you represent a local business, community group or organization, any sponsorship or in-kind support is also greatly appreciated.
Follow our updates here and we’ll show how your generosity is making a difference.
Thank you for standing with the children of Broughton Primary in their time of need. Your support means education, safety and hope.
