My name is Angelita Boteo, and I am asking for help on behalf of Alicia Chicas Alvarez and her family during an incredibly difficult time. They have been a very big part of my life.

On Saturday morning, their home was tragically destroyed in a fire. We still do not fully understand how it happened or how everything unfolded, but the loss has been overwhelming. Her son, Eric Melendez Alvarez, was inside the home at the time and suffered severe burns to his upper body, along with significant smoke inhalation.

He was placed in the ICU in critical condition throughout the weekend. Despite the doctors’ efforts, his injuries were too severe. His brain began to swell, and his body could not keep up. He sadly passed away on Sunday evening.

Everyone who knew Eric experienced his kindness, warmth, and how fun he was to be around. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and his happiness was truly contagious. He will be deeply and sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Their family is heartbroken. In addition to the devastating loss of their son, they have also lost their home and everything they owned in the fire.

They have always been there for others, including my own family. They are incredibly kind and giving, and have helped us when we needed it most. Now, we want to be there for them and support them in any way we can.

We are asking, if you are able and willing, to please support Alicia and her family during this time. Any contribution will go toward helping them begin to rebuild their lives and cover immediate expenses during this tragedy.

Mi nombre es Angelita Boteo y pido ayuda en nombre de Alicia Chicas Álvarez y su familia durante este momento tan difícil. Han sido una parte muy importante de mi vida.

El sábado por la mañana, su casa quedó trágicamente destruida por un incendio. Aún no entendemos cómo ocurrió ni cómo paso todo, pero la pérdida ha sido muy dolorosa. Su hijo, Eric Meléndez Álvarez, se encontraba dentro de la casa en ese momento y sufrió quemaduras graves en la parte superior del cuerpo, además de inhalación de humo.

Estuvo ingresado en la UCI (Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos) en estado crítico durante todo el fin de semana. A pesar de los esfuerzos de los médicos, sus lesiones eran demasiado graves. Su cerebro comenzó a inflamarse y su cuerpo no pudo resistir. Lamentablemente, falleció el domingo por la tarde.

Todos los que conocieron a Eric saben lo dulce, amable y divertido que era. Siempre estaba alegre y tenía esa forma tan especial de hacer sentir bienvenidos a todos. Lo vamos a extrañar muchísimo.

Su familia está desconsolada. Además de la devastadora pérdida de su hijo, también perdieron su casa y todas sus pertenencias en el incendio.

Siempre han estado ahí para los demás, incluida mi propia familia. Son increíblemente amables y generosos, y nos han ayudado cuando más lo necesitábamos. Ahora queremos estar ahí para ellos y apoyarlos en todo lo que podamos.
