Help Rebuild After Garage Fire and Medical Bills
Donation protected
Due to a storm-related power outage, my roommate started my generator but left it in the garage with the garage door mostly down. It started a fire in the front of the garage near the garage door, which spread about a third of the way into the garage. The flames damaged the electrical junction box and all the wires entering it are melted. Because the junction box is damaged I can’t use electricity until it is fixed so I’m forced to use a generator until such time as repairs can be made. The fire also damaged wall and studs, the garage door and opener, the insulation in the walls and around the water pipes in the back of the garage, and the insulation on the other side of the garage. All but one of my many power tools was destroyed. My insurance, I'm hoping, will cover the damage, but the deductible could be as high as $4100. There's also a great deal of soot inside the house which will need to be cleaned, and I'm not sure whether insurance covers this or not.
I have no savings and live on Social Security month to month. I also recently suffered Bell's Palsy, which has caused me to incur some medical bills that I haven't been able to pay.
