City Demolished My Renovated Home — $30,000 Lost Trying to S

Hello, my name is Bryce Robinson.

I am a young man working to improve neighborhoods by purchasing neglected properties and bringing them back to life. My goal has always been to invest in my community, restore homes that have been abandoned, and create opportunities for families.

About a year ago, I purchased a house that had been sitting vacant and neglected for quite some time. The property had previously been placed on the city’s demolition list. Determined to save it, I hired an attorney and went through the proper legal steps to have the house removed from both the demolition list and the non-compliance list.

Once that was accomplished, I immediately began working to restore the property. I replaced locks, restored services that had previously been shut off, and invested significant time and money into bringing the house back to life. I did not perform major construction because the home did not require it — I focused on restoring and maintaining what was already there.

Over time, I invested more than $30,000 of my personal savings into the property. Every dollar I had was going toward fixing this home and improving the neighborhood.

Two months later, I learned that my attorney had missed a court date related to the property. I was completely unaware of this hearing because my attorney was handling all legal matters on my behalf. Because the court appearance was missed, an order was issued for the house to be demolished.

When I was finally informed about the situation, I immediately reached out and tried to resolve the issue. I was told that I needed to pay approximately $4,000, but at that time I simply did not have the money available because I had already invested everything I had into the property.

I asked the city for assistance or a possible payment plan so I could work toward resolving the matter. My attorney also requested an extension and even filed a temporary restraining order to try to stop the demolition.

Despite these efforts, the property was ultimately demolished.

In a matter of moments, the house and the over $30,000 I had invested — my life savings — were gone.

This project represented my hard work, my time, and my belief that improving our communities starts with people who care enough to invest in them. I have always tried to do things the right way and work hard to provide for myself and my family.

Unfortunately, this situation has left me facing a devastating financial loss. I truly feel that the system failed me despite my efforts to follow the proper process.

I am now asking for help from the community to recover from this loss so that I can rebuild and continue the work of revitalizing our neighborhoods.

Any support — whether through a donation or simply sharing this story — would mean more than words can express.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you are able to give.
