Help Rebuild Accompong Town: Help Jamaica's Indigenous People Recover from Hurricane Melissa
A Message from Chief Richard Currie — Accompong Maroon Administration
Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 hurricane, has left a trail of devastation across St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, destroying homes, farmlands, and vital infrastructure. The historic Black River Hospital, which serves both Accompong Maroons and Jamaican citizens, has been completely destroyed.
Entire Maroon communities in Cockpit Country have been torn apart. Families have lost everything — their homes, their crops, their livelihoods. Roads are impassable, water systems are damaged, and medical services are overwhelmed.
As Chief of the Accompong Maroons, I am working with local and national authorities, international partners, and humanitarian organizations to restore sustainable life and rebuild critical infrastructure in the affected areas.
But this recovery will take all of us.
We urgently need your help.
What Your Donation Will Support
Your contribution will go directly toward emergency relief and rebuilding efforts, including:
1. Rebuilding homes for displaced families in Accompong Town and throughout all Maroon Districts.
2. Restoring medical services, including urgent repairs and re-equipping of Accompong Clinic.
Supporting farmers and local businesses devastated by the storm
⚡ Rebuilding essential utilities — clean water, electricity, and communications
Restoring Cockpit Country ecosystems damaged by flooding and landslides
Providing food, water, and shelter for children and elders affected by the disaster
Every single donation — no matter the size — helps us take another step toward healing, rebuilding, and restoring dignity to our people.
️Why This Matters
The Accompong Maroons — descendants of Jamaica’s first freedom fighters — have always stood for community, self-reliance, and resilience in the face of adversity. Today, as we face one of the greatest challenges of our time, we stand shoulder to shoulder with all Jamaicans who have been affected by this national tragedy.
This campaign is not just about rebuilding structures — it’s about restoring lives and strengthening the bond between the Maroon Nation and the wider Jamaican family.
Together, we can rebuild a stronger, safer, and more sustainable future for all.
