Help Rebuild a Safe Home for Levi & Mariah

Hi, my name is Mariah, and I’m a single mom to my sweet and amazing 5-year-old son, Levi. Recently, our lives were turned upside down when a car crashed directly into our home in Milwaukee. A reckless driver who was yet to be located hit another car, causing it to lose control and flying into my home. The driver suffered no injuries and was able to be rescued. I’m not quite sure when or if we will be able to return to our apartment (*update I spoke with my landlord, and we won’t be able to return to our apartment. He’s instructed me to be proactive and start looking for a new place to live). Please share our story and know that anything helps. This ordeal has already been significantly destabilizing for my son and I. Our current temporary living arrangement unfortunately, is not Autism friendly there are also allergy issues that make the arrangement difficult and dangerous for my son. I need help. The impact caused major damage, and we’ve been forced to leave immediately — we are now displaced and trying to figure out our next steps with very limited resources.

We didn’t have renters insurance, so we are left to shoulder the full burden of relocating, replacing our belongings, and trying to create a safe and stable environment for Levi again. As a child on the autism spectrum, Levi depends heavily on routine and a sense of security. This sudden upheaval has been incredibly overwhelming for him.

What makes this even harder is that this didn’t feel like a freak accident — reckless driving in Milwaukee has become a heartbreaking epidemic. Every day, lives are being changed or lost due to drivers who ignore the laws and endanger our communities. Now, my son and I are living with the emotional and physical aftermath of it. We feel unsafe and unsettled in what was supposed to be our safe place.

We’re asking for help with:

Securing new housing

Replacing essential items like furniture, clothes, and Levi’s sensory/comfort items

Covering temporary housing, and relocation expenses.
