For more independent life - Fundraiser for a Life-Changing Hybrid Wheelchair, Modern Prosthetic, and Training that works with my amputation - much not covered by odsp certainly not newer options that are stronger lighter and more functional especially for as short a bone that I have. To regain ability to do things out of apt. like to drive and walk again.

Plus - better health reality long term so not so hard on the body. The systems in the body in a wheelchair seem truncated (ie Lymphatic, Blood, Nerves, Swelling, neck shoulder strain & jarring etc)

***NOTE: ALL odsp support will end in a few years, before 65. The bare minimum they will allow reduces each year, takes months to even get through the system anything - sometimes 6 months or a year and it may not fully work for you or be what you really need. They cover bare minimum not really what you need.

There are other great challenges with the odsp process if you have no other choice - have to use the official suppliers to get even basic tools where much is being compromised or not provided as needed while those not on odsp have a different reality. Further, only bare minumum is approved/allowed. You don't have a choice & not for sure its covered - meaning old options with minimal functionality, very heavy & big, invasive in small spaces etc etc etc, where the system can make the most margin each time - It is slow, painful & frustrating.

What Happened:

So Just over two years ago (will be three years that I exited rehab as of this December 2025) that my life was turned upside down. I contracted a rare and aggressive flesh-eating disease—believed to have originated from a third-world country—that nearly cost me my life.

I barely survived it & the emergency surgery - had an NDE, they thought I was gone. Miraculously I survived but lost my right leg way above the knee. I faced a long, difficult recovery journey. After over six months in the hospital and rehabilitation, followed by more than 2 years of healing and relearning how to live, I’m now ready to take the next step: regaining my independence and quality of life.

That next step includes this specialized, modern Hybrid Wheelchair and modern Prosthetic so it will actually work for my amputation—technologies that can help restore some freedom, mobility, and dignity - including reduce the pain and negative impact on the body especially neck, shoulders, leg, back & organs.

✅ Hybrid Phoenix I Wheelchair – A revolutionary carbon-fiber wheelchair from Scotland, built for both strength and lightness. This special hybrid design provides built in power, is only 6.6kg/15lbs but so strong and doesnt take over the room. This has the advanced functionality I need to regain my driver’s license and manage the wheelchair independently within a vehicle plus has the hybrid power built in to give movement over difficult surfaces, places not really accessible & access over more risky like cracked sidewalks, intersections or upgrades/hills without sacrificing health. It ships worldwide and is specifically suited for active individuals with mobility limitations.

✅ Modern, Lightweight Prosthetic Limb – A custom-designed above-the-knee prosthetic with realistic motion, a smooth-functioning knee joint & ankle joint. This prosthetic must be strong, light, and tailored to my residual limb—approximately 6 inches of bone, with additional soft tissue hanging down that tends to move. The right technology will provide better balance, comfort, and walking ability.

✅ Wheelchair Transportation Accessories – Equipment to safely and independently easily handle with transporting or moving things with this new wheelchair, including in and out of a vehicle from drivers seat, transporting things down sidewalk or such things as getting groceries home etc.

✅ Travel and Mobility Training – Specialized training to help navigate environments confidently and safely, whether commuting, shopping, or traveling, stairs etc. Further, supporting my goal of better quality of independence and attending powerful improvement programs.

My Journey So Far:

I’ve already overcome unimaginable odds daily, hourly etc. After surviving a disease few recover from, I learned how to eat, move, print, write and function again from scratch. I used to be a competitive athlete back in the day (skating and swimming). It has been a real adjustment on all levels / all ways. This past chapter was about survival. This current chapter is about living.

These upgrades aren’t just about equipment—they’re about restoring some resembalance of freedom, dignity, access and self-sufficiency. Being able to drive again, move more confidently, and reduce physical strain, being able to actually get out and about more often, walk & functionally do more so is more realistically pleasant & less painful - will open new doors for possible purpose, social connection, and mobility in day-to-day life.
