On Monday morning, a devastating fire tore through a home on Dana Street in Wilkes-Barre, near the intersection of Farley Lane. Fire crews arrived urgently and worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was safe, but the damage was overwhelming. According to Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney, the slate roof made the fire incredibly difficult to fight, calling it “a real labor-intensive fire.”

My dear friend and her family lost everything in a matter of minutes; her home, her belongings, her sense of security, and the place the family had hoped to gather with their loved ones for Thanksgiving.

She told me, “I had the turkey in the refrigerator and everything. We were supposed to celebrate here… but we won’t be able to do it now, not in this house.”

This home held years of memories, and now they are left with nothing but the clothes she escaped in. The emotional and financial toll is unimaginable.
