Help Rebuild a Family's Flooded Home in Austria

Dear Donors!

My name is Felix Schuster, and I am an international student at the University of Tulsa. I am originally from Austria and have been studying in the US since 2019.

I have started this fundraiser in order to support my uncle and his family who have been hit by the devasting floodings in Austria this past weekend.

My uncle, his wife and 9-year-old stepdaughter live in Lower Austria in the house which used to belong to my grandparents before their death. The surreal rapid increase of floods due to the continuous rain for days even broke multiple dams in Austria. One of them close to the area where my uncle lives. Within a few hours, the whole house and garden have been flooded, with water even entering through the windows. At this time my uncle’s partner and her daughter have been trapped inside the house and had to get evacuated by the fire brigade.

The aftermath was more than catastrophic. They lost all their clothes, documents, and nearly all their personal belongings, including furniture. Despite the clean-up efforts, the house is still filled with mud, dirt, and river water, which has severely damaged the walls and floors.

To make matters worse, my late grandfather had not adequately insured the house against such disasters. As a result, my uncle and his family may receive no more than €5,000 from the insurance company.

It is more than difficult for me to see my uncle and his family in this situation. The house has been part of our family since I can remember. It was the place where my whole family always got together, celebrating birthdays, holidays or simply creating memories by being together.

This natural disaster has cost my uncle's family everything. This is why I have started this fundraiser with the hope of helping them rebuilding their life.
