Hello, my name is Rebecca. The past two years have brought more challenges than I ever could have imagined. In 2024, I went through a divorce and, that same year, needed a toe joint replacement surgery. Unfortunately, the procedure was out-of-network, leaving me with a large medical bill. To make matters worse, the surgery failed in 2025, and the joint implant began to extract itself from the bone. I had to undergo a second surgery with a different doctor to fuse my big toe using a bone implant, adding another significant bill to my growing list of expenses.
As I was recovering from the second surgery, I was unable to work and did not have enough sick days at my new job in a new town, so I went without pay during that time. At the end of 2025, I was diagnosed with mild to moderate hearing loss, and now require hearing aids—an expense not covered by insurance. As a teacher, being able to hear clearly is essential, and the cost of these devices is overwhelming.
On top of my own medical needs, I am supporting my 20-year-old daughter as she transitions into adulthood. She was recently diagnosed with ADHD and is working hard to make it on her own. Just last week, her car broke down and needs a new engine, and she suffered a fall that injured her back. She is hesitant to seek medical care because of the cost, and together we are doing our best to manage a mountain of medical bills. None of these expenses are frivolous—they are all necessary for our health and well-being.
Any amount of support would help alleviate the stress we are under and allow us to focus on healing and moving forward. I appreciate the time you spent reading about the last two years. They have been a whirlwind of events! Your support at this time would be greatly appreciated beyond measure. Thank you!
