After eight months of fighting to save his leg, Reason Swafford just learned the devastating news: amputation is unavoidable. His family needs us now.
Who Are the Swaffords?
If you know the Swaffords, you know they're the kind of people who show up. When you need help on your farm, Reason's there with his tractor before you even ask. When you're going through hard times, Jacki's the one at your door with a meal and a hug. They've spent their lives giving - raising four kids in Rayville, Missouri, building a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.
They've never been the type to ask for anything.
Which is exactly why we're asking for them.
What Happened
On June 1, 2025, Reason was working on the family farm when a terrible accident changed everything. He broke his femur and severed his femoral artery. He was lifeflighted to Kansas City, where surgeons worked for hours trying to save his legs.
For eight months, Reason has fought. Surgery after surgery. Infection after setback. Through it all, he and Jacki have held onto their faith, leaning on family, friends, and a community that showed up again and again with t-shirts, meals, prayers, and love.
But the doctors have delivered the news no one wanted to hear: they can't save his leg.
Why We're Asking Now
Reason's amputation happened this week. The surgery itself is just the beginning - months of rehabilitation, prosthetic fitting, and physical therapy lie ahead. The family has already depleted their savings over the past eight months. They need support NOW to face what's coming.
Who Reason Really Is
If you've ever met Reason Swafford, you know he's not the type to sit still. This is a man who's up before dawn, whether he's climbing into a tractor or the cab of his 18-wheeler. He's spent his life working two jobs - farming the same land his family has worked for generations, and driving cross-country so his kids never had to go without.
A provider. A protector. The one his family leans on.
Now, at 52 years old, he's facing the loss of the leg that walked behind a plow, that climbed in and out of a semi a thousand times, that chased his grandbabies around the yard.
Reason has four grandchildren, who call him Poppy- including 1 month old little Whitli and 3 week old Lacey . He wants to be there for the babies first steps, all of their graduations, their weddings. Right now, he's fighting to take his own first steps again.
And through it all, he and Jacki keep saying the same thing: "God has a reason."
Even when the reason is hard to see.

How to Help
If you can give, please do. If you can't, please share. The Swaffords have spent decades being the first ones to show up for others. Now it's our turn to show up for them.
Thank you for being part of their village.
With gratitude,
Friends of the Swafford Family.
