Help Reagan with Medical and Living Expenses

Hi everyone, most of you know me, but my name is Erin (Reagan's ex-wife and we co-parent our 10 year old son) and I'm hoping you can help me keep things afloat for Reagan while he's in the hospital fighting for his life.

Reagan is currently in ICU. He's unable to respond to messages or calls. He can answer questions but with a significant delay in response time. He appears very out of it, unable to get out of bed or take himself to the bathroom. It started with checking himself in to the ER due to high blood pressure. After running numerous tests, he was diagnosed with Lupus, as well as a secondary underlying auto immune that they cannot diagnose, but that continues to make his platelet count drop. They cannot figure out what the underlying autoimmune disease is, but they do know it's responsible for attacking his healthy cells. They prescribed him blood thinners for the clotting disorder and blood pressure medication and discharged him.

2 days later he took himself back to the ER in full body shivers and high fever. They did more testing and found a subdural hematoma. It was stable, but they had to reverse his blood thinning medications in order to keep the bleed in his brain from growing. In the last week, things have significantly declined. The bleed grew and shifted his brain 2mm. Neurosurgeons consider this a "mild" shift so they will not operate. He's currently in a community hospital that does not offer neuro services. I tried endlessly with 5 different hospitals to get transfer approved so he would be in a better place in the event the bleed grew, but they will not approve it due to the "stable" condition of the bleed. If the bleed gets worse, they will transfer him at that time, but there is no way of knowing what kind of damage will be done in the hour it takes to get him to surgery during transfer. We also don't know how much damage is being done every day that his body is in this condition.

Since he cannot be on blood thinner medications at this time, they inserted a filter in his leg to catch clots that could go to his heart and lungs, but it does NOT stop clots from forming and find their way to his brain, so unfortunately strokes are still possible. They did a scan and found he had several tiny bleeds and mini strokes that have happened over the last couple of years. If anyone noticed a change in his personality, attention span, memory, etc over the last year, this is the cause. I’m currently his medical proxy so am staying fully up to date on every scan, lab, test, etc.

He has already received a platelet transfusion and will require a second one this week as his platelets continue to drop. The current plan is, there is no plan. He will remain in the hospital and we wait while I do everything on my end to find additional resources and ensure he's getting the best care possible.

We pray that every day he gets stronger, every day his body heals a little more, and we pray that he will be released. Once he’s out of the hospital, the real work will begin. He will have referrals from his Critical Care doctor and his Hematologist to USF Tertiary hospital where they will do numerous tests to try and diagnose the secondary autoimmune disease and hopefully come up with a treatment plan.

Right now, there are so many unknowns. I don’t know what is going to happen. I don’t know what tomorrow looks like. I can tell you this is a scary time and the more love and support he has, the better. We must keep his blood pressure as low as possible so as not to affect the bleed, but I know he would love visitors. We can only have a few in the room at a time to keep sensory input low for him. If anyone would like to visit, please message me and I’m happy to send you the hospital room info. I will not be able to give individualized updates to each of you, but I will be posting ALL updates here to this page in real time as I get them.

All of this is to say, our boy needs our help. While he is unable to work right now, life is still spinning on the outside, which means his bills need to be paid and the medical bills are stacking as I type this. Anything you can donate to help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you all in advance for your love and support during this time. - Reagan, Erin & Z
