Last week Reagan was very sick and an ultrasound was performed which showed a tumor on his right adrenal gland. This type of tumor is not common and makes up for less than 1% of tumors in dogs. The tumor shows no symptoms until it’s too late and is usually found by chance like what happened with us. We met with a specialist today who is confident in performing surgery and believes he will make a full recovery and continue to live a happy and healthy life without side effects from the adrenalecotomy. This surgery is very complex and serious due to the location of the tumor being right next to the major vein. The surgery must be done at a specialty facility where there is 24/7 care because he will be there for a few days during recovery to be fully monitored. He will also be on heart medication for 2 weeks prior to surgery in case it is a type of tumor that releases certain hormones that can make blood pressure spike / suddenly drop & affect the heart rhythm which would be catastrophic while under anesthesia. Reagan is only 9 years old and has been the best friend to so many other animals and humans. He is my go to for trial runs with any new foster since he is so laid back and welcoming to all. Without the surgery the tumor will grow and only create many more risks and issues. We want to address this issue now while he’s healthy before it progresses. Any donation is truly so appreciated beyond belief and will help ease the burden so much. We have spent thousands within this last week but he is so worth it. Reagan has so much more life in him and creates so much happiness in this world just by existing. Thank you for taking the time to even just read this!
