Help Rabbi RBO (Rachel) Bat-Or
“No one who spends time with you walks away unchanged.”
Reb Mimi Feigelson, Former Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies Professor
Those of us who have spent time with Rabbi RBO Bat-Or agree - we have all been changed and for the better.
RBO inspires us to get to the heart of all matters. For many of us, RBO has been our consistent guru of the heart, providing guidance, healing, understanding and support. As a psychologist for survivors of childhood abuse, a Jewish spiritual leader, as well as Founder and Director Emeritus of the first and only Jewish LGBTQ+ helpline - our friend RBO has spent her life supporting others. She has particularly led the way in reaching out to transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer young people and their families helping them adjust to their new reality.
As her last name suggests, RBO Bat-Or (daughter-of-light) brought light to every community she has ever joined. Now it is up to us to reciprocate in the ways she has modeled for us.
In September 2018, she was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic tumors in her liver, metastasized from breast cancer.
Currently, her daily life is a struggle -- after she wakes each morning, it takes her at least half an hour to get out of bed. She often sleeps for several hours in the afternoon. She can no longer do laundry, clean her apartment, or cook her own meals. At different times throughout the day she is dizzy and nauseated.
Like other serious autoimmune illnesses she’s had, she is determined to survive this. She’s doing it for her son and his family, for her friends and community, and for herself. She knows she has more to offer people in pain, more ways to fulfill her life’s mission. We in her community want to give her the money it will take to cover
her basic needs and to pay her medical bills for at least a year to support her health and healing.
We are reaching out to ask you to donate to the Help Rabbi RBO Bat-Or GoFundMe Campaign so
she will have the time she needs to rest, heal, and take care of herself.
We want RBO back in strength and fullness. We pray that this GoFundMe Campaign will give her the time to heal so she can once again give us her unique presence.
