Razor is my 4.5 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback and truly a member of our family. He’s been my emotional support through the hardest year of my life—after losing 15 loved ones in less than two years, including my brother and my dad, Razor was there for me and my two boys, offering comfort and love when we needed it most. When Razor was diagnosed with idiopathic Chylothorax, our world was turned upside down. The condition is life-threatening, and without surgery, Razor will not survive. The good news is that with surgery, he has a 90% chance of returning to a normal, healthy life without reoccurrence. Do you have pet insurance you may ask? Unfortunately, no. As a single mom with two active kids, it wasn't in our budget. 

My boys were so heartbroken that they offered to give up their own activities to help save Razor. Their love for him shows just how much he means to our family. I have already spent so much on ultrasounds, x-rays, echocardiograms, blood tests, fluid extractions, and medications to diagnose and treat Razor. The surgery he needs is urgent and far more than I can manage alone as a single mother. If Razor doesn’t get the surgery soon, he will need another fluid extraction, which is also very expensive, or he will not make it. This surgery, post care and testing to find a diagnosis is over $20,000. If you are an animal lover like us, you understand why that’s a small price to fix a problem so a young dog can live a great life for many more years.
