Hi, my name is Heather Nelson, and I am writing this on behalf of my grandparents.

My grandfather Raymond Sarnowski, a proud army veteran, carpenter, a retiree as Plainfield's building inspector, has been battling serious health complications for quite some time. His heart is failing, he has internal bleeding, and he has faced many other medical challenges. Since January, he has been in and out of the hospital with long and difficult stays. After one hospitalization, he was sent to a nursing home for rehabilitation, but unfortunately, multiple hospital readmissions have prevented his insurance from covering his continued care.

Recently, he fell at home, which put him back in the hospital. While there, he experienced another fall that left him unresponsive for 7 minutes with no pulse, and they were able to revive him to bring him back. He was put on a ventilator for a few days and was finally able to breathe on his own. Thankfully, he pulled through and is now stable enough to be transferred to a rehabilitation center. The heartbreaking reality is that insurance will not cover this next step of care. The cost is $9,000 per month, which is far beyond what my grandparents can afford.

For those who know my grandfather, you know he is a proud man who would never ask for help himself. But he needs the rehabilitation center to regain strength and stability — he is simply too weak to come home right now.

I am reaching out on their behalf, asking for help with the overwhelming costs of his care. Any amount, big or small, will go directly toward his rehabilitation expenses and will help ease this enormous burden on my grandparents during such a difficult time.
