Help SFC Raymond Ojeda put his home back together.

The picture you see is one of many showing how my house and furniture was literally destroyed over events that transpired during my tour to Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea. I am trying to raise money for the furniture that was destroyed, money spent and the damages  caused to the property that I have payed for out ofpocket.

On December 12, 2020, I received a phone call  from a friend at Fort Rucker, AL letting me know that my house was being raided by police. I will not give all the details but get right down to the nitty gritty of the situation.

During my absence, my ex-wife became friends with and developed a romantic relationship with a local drug dealer and allowed him and his associates to live in my home on base. These individuals began running what police called a small drug enterprise out of my home believing that they would be safe on military grounds. These individuals  smoked marijuana profusely in my home and around my children creating a toxic and illegal environment. The house was thrown into disarray as not one of them cared about the safety or well being  of my children nor the state of the property I was responsible for.

Somewhere in this long and complicated story, my ex’s boyfriend shot someone and he was tracked to my house where police conducted a raid. During the search of my home, the property was damaged and most of my furniture was rendered unusable. Based on conversations I had with the police and children, my home was in a very bad state of disrepair prior to the raid. Police found drugs and firearms belonging to these individual in my home. Follow the links below for a brief insight as to what happened.

One would think that renters insurance would cover but that is not the case. My USAA policy apparently will not cover the damage or destruction of property.  I have included a copy of the claims coverage decision email I received from USAA stating that the reason for denial was not caused by any of the perils listed in my policy. Looking at the policy, "peril" # 11. is for vandalism and malicious mischief. The individuals residing in my home spray painted all over my house, punched holes in walls, and destroyed much of my furniture and belongings. If this does not fall under that category then I don't know what does.

The fact of the matter is I have spent close to $20,000 at this point and come back into debt after being debt free for so long trying to get my home livable again and me and my children's lives back to some form of normal and I have exhausted my funds.

I opted to leave my family at Fort Rucker, AL during my tour in Korea for the safety and ease of access to facilities during my absence and the Army’s ability to care for my dependents while I was away. I never imagined that something like like this would happen. I want to mention that the Fort Rucker community and leadershiphas come together and helped us out tremendously during our time of need and gave us the opportunity to have a fantastic Christmas despite the situation. I want to thank law enforcement as well. I whole heartedly appreciate the fact that they kept my children safe and brought an end to the illegal activities being conducted in my home and removed my children from that environment. Myself and my family continue our struggle and now I am extending my hand out for assistance. I have served my country and the Army diligently for almost 21 years and now I am swallowing my pride and asking for help. Thank you for reading my story and thank you for your time.
