My nephew Rayan received a cochlear implant when he was only 5 years old. He is now 28, and this implant has helped him hear, communicate, work, study, and stay connected with the people around him for most of his life.
Rayan currently uses a MED-EL OPUS 2 audio processor. Unfortunately, this processor is now an older model, and spare parts are becoming very difficult to find. If the processor stops working, his cochlear implant cannot provide him with hearing.
His clinic in Lebanon has confirmed that he is compatible with the newer MED-EL SONNET 3 processor. The cost of the processor is AUD 12,796.
We are raising AUD 12,796, which covers the cost of the SONNET 3 audio processor only.
Our family will cover all other related expenses, including shipping, customs or import costs, programming/mapping appointments in Lebanon, and any other required clinic or logistics costs.
Rayan’s family has also been deeply affected by the ongoing instability in Lebanon, including airstrikes near their village, which have made it difficult to keep their business and income stable. This is why we are reaching out for help with the cost of the processor.
