Hello, my name is Ray and I am an OTR truck driver. Unfortunately, I recently experienced a terrible work .accident while at Steel Cell America in Baldwin, Georgia, where I was preparing to transport steel jail cells for a new jailhouse. While tarping and strapping the units, the top gave way beneath my foot, causing me to lose my balance and fall 13 and a half feet to the concrete floor. The impact resulted in severe brain bleeding and swelling, a crushed right heel, and a broken right shoulder. I was rushed to the hospital for emergency craniotomy brain surgery, and doctors also placed a steel rod in my right shoulder and inserted 14 screws into my right heel. This accident has completely changed my life. I have lost my rental house, my truck, and my motorcycle. I am now homeless, without transportation, and unable to work due to my injuries. I do not have medical insurance, and the company I was driving for did not provide workers' compensation or coverage for my medical expenses. My daily routine has been turned upside down, and I am struggling to support myself financially while I recover. Because of the severity of my injuries, there is a real possibility that I may not be able to fully recover or return to work. I may need to rely on full disability support for the long term.
