Will You Help Ray Go to the NSLC

WOW! Out of many students at my high school I’ve been selected by the Nations Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) to participate this summer in one of their engineering 9-day programs because of my high scores on the PSAT test that I took this past fall. Rice University has been chosen as one of the nation’s top engineering schools that is in partnership with the NSLC. This will be my choice if I am able to raise enough funds to cover the cost of the conference & expenses involved.

This conference gives students a chance to live on-campus, get introduced to different disciplines of engineering while working with other conference attendees on engineering projects, meet faculty, develop leadership skills and go on tours of selected attractions such as NASA Johnson Space Center and Museum of Natural Science. With your help you would be involved with further launching me in the direction of my future aspiration of becoming an engineer.

As an engineer I want to be involved with helping to solve problems that we face daily – limited resources to sustain life, recycling of products that would normally be considered as waste, using technology in computer design and programming to elevate abilities of all living beings on earth and in the cosmos.
My name is Ray Marshall, II.

To tell you about me, I am a 10th grade student at Jersey Village High School on the outskirts of Houston, Texas. I maintain above average grades in all of my upper-level classes, along with being in our schools Symphony Orchestra. I recently competed in UIL ensemble competition in duet and trio ensembles with my viola and received 1’s in both which is the top score. I am a student and Junior Instructor of Martial Arts and will soon be testing for my Black Belt in karate. In 2019 I was a Texas State Amateur Organization of Karate (AOK) 1st place Champion in Form (Kata) and Sparring.

In our karate school we have 5 basic virtues that are the foundation of our program: Discipline, Respect, Positive Attitude, Self-Assurance and Most of All Honesty. Living daily with a focus on my Christian faith and these virtues have allowed me to continue to aspire to have opportunities in life such as the NSLC and going to college to pursue a degree in engineering. It takes physical and mental training in Martial Arts to become a Black Belt. It is with that same focus I will further my physical and mental training to become a top graduate in engineering.
