Help Raven Get Facial Reanimation Surgery!

Donation protected
On October 30, 2020 Raven was a passenger involved in a severe life threatening car accident in which her car flipped three times into a canal onto the passenger side, resulting in her car being totaled and many severe injuries.  Since then she has been slowly focusing on recovery, but it will be a long road. Raven was in her final year at the University of North Carolina before her accident, and she is now working towards a belated graduation.  She sustained 6 broken ribs, two broken shoulders, two skull fractures, a collapsed lung, a severe traumatic brain injury, and facial paralysis on the  left side of her face. This paralysis resulted in the inability to close her left eye, blink, smile, or move her eyebrow, and has caused her significant impairment with talking/eating/drinking.

For the past few months,  Raven has focused on recovering and has finished up in-person physical therapy for her broken shoulders, but is still being treated for her traumatic brain injury and facial paralysis. Due to the effects of the traumatic brain injury, Raven is unable to work as she suffers from significant memory and cognitive impairments.  The facial paralysis is caused by nerve damage, and the only hope for recovery is a facial reanimation surgery that harvests a nerve from her leg to be put into her face to help her regain movement in her muscles involving her mouth, and hopefully her eyelid.  The ability to blink is super important as she could end up losing her eye without it!  Though doctors believe her face will not be able to look the same as before the accident, they hope to achieve the best results possible to help regain her ability to smile and blink in the future.

Her first facial reanimation surgery is scheduled for April 12, 2021, and will be the first of 3-5 surgeries over the next two years.
Raven has shown great strength and positivity through this whole ordeal.  She is a beautiful, kind, determined, and compassionate young woman who deserves to have her smile back.
Between her car being totaled and mounting medical bills from the initial hospitalization/emergency services, the 10+ doctors/specialists she now requires, and her upcoming surgeries, Raven needs some help to get back on her feet. Raven feels very lucky to be alive after such a close call, and deeply appreciates all the kindness that has been shown to her during this long recovery process that continues on.

Please share if you can and help Raven regain her smile!
