Hi<3 my name is Raven. I am: a 22yr old | non-binary | hakka/han chinese artist | w limited income and no health insurance living in the U.S. (disclaimer: I am a non-black poc and want to express an understanding for the need to prioritize black queer/trans need on this specific issue)
I have been supporting myself financially through my tattoo practice and other freelancing jobs for the past 5 years since I moved to the U.S. at 17yrs old. However, I still do not have any expendable income now or in the near future to pay for top surgery myself, especially when I am not (and will probably never be) out to my family. Due to COVID, I had to close down my tattoo practice (my only source of income) for four months, while not qualifying for unemployment insurance, stimulus check, or most job applications because of my immigration status.
This summer has been very difficult for me experiencing dysphoria and feeling constantly at war with my own body. I desperately crave to be living with my body instead of surviving against my body/surviving in spite of my body. Therefore, I am in the process of scheduling top surgery with Dr. Scott Mosser and will hopefully be able to have the surgery by the end of this summer.
I am sadly (and historically) terrible at asking for help, but I am learning to be more vulnerable with my community and trust in the abundance of love, care, and resources circulating in our communities. Though even when I am drafting this, I feel somewhat embarrassed to be in the position of receiving help, I also know that this is an important and necessary step to sustain my survival.
