My name is Isabella, and I’m reaching out to share Raul’s story with you. Raul came to America with legal entry at the age of 9, carrying dreams and hopes for a bright future. These dreams have now been taken from him. In America, Raul learned English, studied hard, and attended college. Raul is a valued member of our community who grew up playing baseball through grade school, high school, and college, even leading his team to the nationals. He is loved by his family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who knows him.

On Thursday, March 12th, Raul was stopped by a Chandler PD officer and later held overnight at the Gilbert Police Department. Raul was promised that ICE would not be contacted, as the police stop was unrelated. The next morning, March 13th, he appeared before a judge and was released without bail. After waiting 4 hours for Raul to be released outside the courthouse, he never came. As my worry grew stronger, I attempted to find Raul’s whereabouts through the Chandler courthouse, Maricopa County Police Department, and Chandler Police Department and was given no answers. Finally, I reached out to an attorney who was able to locate Raul and alert me that he was taken into ICE custody before leaving the courthouse.
